Research Faculty Members

In the past, most of the faculty and students affiliated with CERC have been from the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering and the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and all have been from the Vancouver campus. The CERC membership has been expanded to include a broader range of members representing all departments within Applied Science and other faculty departments active in energy research at UBC Vancouver, and also to include UBC Okanagan. In addition, we have a small number of selected non-faculty individuals with Adjunct Membership who have interest and expertise in Clean Energy Engineering.

Facilities

The new building is considered critical to the Centre maintaining and improving the quality of its world class research activities. CERC also benefits from the integration of the Chemical and Biological Engineering Department as part of the centre facilities. We have a total of nine laboratories in CERC; please see CERC Lab Summary for more information. In addition, CERC faculty members carry out research in their own Department facilities.

UBC Bioenergy Research and Demonstration Project (BRDP)

A first-of-its-kind clean energy project that will generate enough clean electricity to power 1,500 homes and reduce the University of British Columbia’s natural gas consumption by up to 12 per cent, received $11.2 million in new federal and provincial government funding at an official groundbreaking ceremony on February 24, 2011.
